Here it is- the momentous occasion when a young man or woman decides whether they wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. It is a life-changing decision. In a way, it is the first-time young adults get to step forward publicly and say “Yes” to God and His will for them.
Confirmation is the Sacrament in which one is enriched by the gift of the Holy Spirit and bound more perfectly to the Church. It strengthens us and obliges us to be witnesses to Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It is the Sacrament in which one enters full membership in the Catholic Church. It perfects Baptismal grace and incorporates us more firmly into Christ.
Confirmation, like Baptism, imprints a spiritual mark or indelible character on the Christian soul.
A Christian does not live as a child of God through his or her own efforts alone, but through the grace of God. We see this in a practical way when we look back on our own lives, the lives of others, and especially the lives of Saints. It is our duty to seek the grace that God offers us to live our lives as Christians in the way that God intends.
St. Catherine of Siena once said, “Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire.”
Part of Confirmation is learning how to listen to God’s call and how He wishes to work in your life. When you embrace Him and His will, you become who you were truly made to be. The world indeed will be set on fire through the graces God gives you and how He works through you.

Goldsmith Confirmation Program Details
We are happy to announce that the Goldsmith Confirmation Program has moved from a one-year program to a two-year program. In year one, students begin their spiritual journey towards confirmation. In year two, students continue their spiritual journey and are confirmed in the Spring. It is required that religious education students attend both years of formation to be confirmed. MACS students only need to attend the second year of formation to be confirmed, but are welcome to join for both years if they choose. (All 10th grade students should enroll in year two because they did not have the opportunity to attend year one.)
The typical age for year one is 9th grade and the typical age for year two is 10th grade. However, families may choose to wait to enroll their child if life circumstances make attendance difficult. If students choose to wait to enroll, they still need to complete both years of formation, they will just be a bit older than most of their classmates. The youngest age allowed into year one of the program is 9th grade.
All our area parishes (Holy Ghost, Notre Dame, St. Bridget, St. Charles, and St. Peter) jointly offer Goldsmith Confirmation Program. If your child wishes to be confirmed, please enroll them into the Goldsmith Confirmation Program by following the instructions below.
Before registering, please review the program requirements to make sure your child can commit to the program, it’s okay if you need to wait a year or two.
Please register before your child’s first session. Year one students begin confirmation sessions September 7, 2022. Year two students begin confirmation sessions December 7, 2022.
The fee for year one is $50 and the fee for year two is $50. You can mail or drop payments off at Holy Ghost Parish c/o Paula Hanson (412 S. Main St. Chippewa Falls, WI 54729). Checks should be made out to your home parish with the note “Goldsmith Confirmation Program”.
Confirmation sessions for both year one and year two will be held at Holy Ghost Parish in the Church basement from 7:15pm-8:35pm.
Because the second year of confirmation is more intense in its formation and expectations, there will be a meeting for second year parents and confirmands to discuss the finer details of the program. The meeting will be Wednesday, October 19 from 7:15-8:35pm at Holy Ghost Church in the basement. Students and only one parent/guardian should attend. There is no meeting for first year students.
All students wishing to be confirmed will need to submit proof of their Baptism at the parent meeting in the second year of confirmation. If students were Baptized at Holy Ghost, Notre Dame, St. Bridget, St. Charles, or St. Peter, we can obtain that proof for you. If students were NOT Baptized Holy Ghost, Notre Dame, St. Bridget, St. Charles, or St. Peter, you will need to submit a copy of your child’s Baptismal certificate. A photocopy of the certificate is sufficient. If you don’t have the original certificate, simply contact the parish where your child was Baptized and they will send you a copy (it is a very common request).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
