Parents have the awesome responsibility of being the primary educators in their child’s faith development. Children begin their faith journey with Baptism, an immeasurable gift, usually initiated by parents . The gift of faith, given by God, is then nurtured by parents in the household and reinforced through parish religious education, Catholic schooling, or homeschooling.
Children who are Baptized, who are able to reason, who know the difference between right and wrong, and who can understand the Eucharist (typically 7 years old), are eligible to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion as long as they are properly prepared. These sacraments will strengthen them on their journey towards conversion to Christ and life in heaven.
Holy Ghost and St. Bridget Parishes offer preparation sessions for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. In addition to these special preparation sessions, your child should be enrolled in Catholic School, should be enrolled Parish a religious education program in both first and second grade, or receive homeschooling in religion.
If you believe your child is ready for these sacraments, you are welcome to have them participate in our parish sacramental program. Please explore the information below.
